2. Scientific & Industrial Importance
  • Methanol Metabolism: Utilizes methanol as a sole carbon and energy source via the Ribulose Monophosphate (RuMP) pathway.

  • Amino Acid Production: Naturally secretes high levels of L-glutamate and L-lysine, making it a key candidate for methanol-based biomanufacturing.

  • Thermophily: Thrives at temperatures between 50 °C and 55 °C, offering advantages in contamination control and reduced cooling costs during industrial fermentation.

  • Chassis for Synthetic Biology: Often engineered to produce non-native chemicals like cadaverine, GABA, or acetoin from methanol (Braumut et al., 2014).

Technical Tip:
When culturing MGA3, methanol evaporation is a common issue at 50 °C. It is recommended to use sealed flasks or automated feed systems to maintain consistent carbon source levels.
