Cell line: OCI-M2 DSMZ no.: ACC 619 Species: human (Homo sapiens) Cell type: acute myelocytic leukemia Origin: established in 1984 from the leukemic cells of a 56-year-old patient with erythroleukemia (AML-M6), representing the end stage of a previously identified myelodysplastic syndrome; described in the literature to differentiate along the erythroid or megakaryocytic/monocytic lineage after stimulation with erythroid inducers or phorbol esters, respectively; described in the literature to constitutively and inducibly secrete platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-like proteins; contamination with Mycobacterium was eliminated with kanamycin.
