Classification Retrovirus, Mammalian Type C Retrovirus, Mammalian Group, Xenotropic Agent MuLv Strain pNFS Th-1 Biosafety Level 2Comments This virus is maintained in persistently infected Mink lung cells which were originally transfected with molecularly cloned virus. Typical murine type C retrovirus. Although derived from endogenous sequences of inbred mice, it does not exogenously infect mouse cells, except certain cells of wild mouse origin such as M. dunni cells (ATCC CRL-2017). Xenotropic Effect on Host No CPE in Mv-1 Lu cells.Recommended Host Recommended Host: This virus is continuously produced by the cell line in which it is shipped. No additional host is required, however, if desired the virus may be used to infect other cells, which are listed as alternate hosts. Alternate Host(s): Mink lung cells, many non-murine cells, Mus dunni cells. Growth Conditions Incubation: 2 to 7 days at 37°C, a 5% CO2 in air atmosphere is recommended Effect on Host No CPE in Mv-1 Lu cells.
