Strain: 67N Classification: Nidovirales, Coronaviridae, Coronavirus,Group 2 Common Name: Porcine hemagglutinating encephalomyelitis virus Original Source: Nasal swab from apparently normal feeder pigs, Iowa Depositor: WL Mengeling Refer to the Certificate of Analysis for batchspecific test results. Propagation Host: primary pig embryonic kidney cells porcine cells in tissue culture Effect on Host: Cytopathic effects (syncytium formation and cell necrosis) Growth Conditions Temperature: 37°C Incubation: 3 days Both heat (56°C, 30 min.) and lipid solvents (ether and chloroform) destroy or markedly reduce infectivity. HA activity is reduced only slightly when virus is treated with ether in the presence of serum. The HA titer is reduced appreciably in the absence of serum. Chloroform has little or no effect on the HA titer.
