E. coli strain GB08-red enables recombineering of plasmids and BACs without the necessity to maintain an expression plasmid in the cells since the necessary genes are located on the chromosome.

E. coli strain GB05-dir harbours an arabinose inducible ETgA operon (full length
recE, recT, redγ, and recA) at the ybcC locus. The strain was successfully used to
directly clone gene clusters larger than 10 kb of secondary-metabolite pathways from
Photorhabdus luminescens, a gram negative rod-shaped bacterium, into expression
vectors.
GB05-red carries the arabinose inducible redγβαA operon integrated at ybcC
