Organism Type Human The goal of this paper is to study the opacity of the aged eye lens. It is important because this cataract leads to visual impairment of elderly individuals. The opacity is presumably caused by oxidative stress (methoionine oxidation). It is assumed that methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MsrA) can improve or even reverse the ill phenotype. The study creates MsrA overexpressing human lens epithelial cells with the aid of the ViraPower Lentiviral Expression system.
