Description
In 1996, the complete sequence of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae
strain S288C was determined by an international collaboration of
more than 100 laboratories.

Storage
The yeast strain S288C is supplied as a yeast peptone dextrose (YPD) agar stab at room temperature. Prepare glycerol stocks of the strain on receipt as described below.

The strain is viable as a stab culture for up to one week when stored at 4ºC. For longer storage, prepare glycerol stocks as described below.

Preparing Glycerol Stocks
1. Use a sterile loop to inoculate a tube containing 5 ml of YPD medium with the yeast from the stab.
2. Incubate at 30 ºC with shaking overnight or until turbid.
3. Add 1 ml of sterile 80% glycerol and mix thoroughly.
4. Dispense the culture into ultra-low temperature vials and freeze the vials at -80ºC.
